RESTOCKING PROGRAMS & SUPPLY TO ZOOS

Restocking programs
Restocking programs for crocodiles have been carried out in the Indian states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Bihar and in the neighboring country of Bangladesh. Recently in June 2005, 40 muggers were sent to Bangladesh for their captive breeding and restocking project. Muggers in Bangladesh are in danger of extinction with only one left in a pond that belongs to a holy shrine

As part of the CrocBank gharial conservation project started in 2004, 370 juvenile gharials (Gavialis gangeticus)were released in February 2006 in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. In Uttar Pradesh gharials have been released in the Chambal Sanctuary and Katerniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary. On the Madhya Pradesh side gharials have been released in the Chambal Sanctuary and in the Son River Sanctuary.
