CAPTIVE BREEDING OF WATER MONITORS

During 1986, the Bank received six wild-caught water monitor lizards, Varanus salvator salvator from Nandankanan Biological Park in Orissa. They obviously liked the atmosphere here, and the first clutch of eggs was laid in July 1987. Since then the CrocBank has the world’s best breeding history for this species and most of the off springs, 95%, have been supplied to zoos within India.
